#RPGaDAY 2017, Day 10: An Unexpected Gaming Experience

Today’s #RPGaDAY topic is “An Unexpected Gaming Experience”. This is actually last year’s Day 10 topic, or rather, it was my take on Day 10’s topic, which was “Largest In-Game Surprise Experienced”, which wasn’t all that interesting to me back then. This year it’s supposed to be “Where Do You Find RPG Reviews”, which is also… meh.

A different unexpected gaming experience than last year: it was the last time I was at Gen Con, I believe. I had moved away from Maine, not thinking that I’d see those people again in the flesh except for rare occasions, and I get a message: our friend Derek suddenly got the weekend off, so he came up from Arizona and would I like to play Call of Cthulhu with him?

#RPGaDAY 2017, Days 8 and 9: A Game That Takes About Ten Short Sessions to Play

Our topics for days 8 and 9 of #RPGaDAY are “What is a good RPG to play for sessions of two hours or less?” and “What is a good RPG to play for about ten sessions?” Easy-peasy.

Primetime Adventures.

When I run Primetime Adventures, each episode takes about two hours to run through. A long season of PTA is nine game sessions. Add on one session to bust out the pitch session — where we all make protagonists and decide on the series we are going to create — and we’re at ten sessions.

#RPGaDAY 2017, Day 7: Improving a Great Game

The topic for Day 7 of #RPGaDAY is “How would you improve one of your favorite games?”

It’s actually “What was your most impactful game session?” but I really don’t want to delve into that one, partially because “impactful” means different things to different people and partially because the question doesn’t interest me.

Instead, I’ll follow the rule from earlier years, where we substitute questions. Hence: how would you improve one of your favorite games? This question came forth after reading Shut Up & Sit Down’s review of Tales from the Loop, where they pretty much nailed everything my thoughts on the game, positive and negative.
